News Items

While I had a break in the Hardrock 100 coverage I decided to post up a few news items.

  • As I'm sure everyone has heard the Wasatch 100 race committee has decided to add Irv's Torture Chamber back in for 2013! It is truly astounding to me that a race committee would listen to the runners and make a change like this. This is just another reason why this race is so special. Read about it here.
  • Brighton marathon results and report have been posted over on the Wasalpstriders blog. Even though we couldn't be there to organize things this year there was a very healthy group of runners that did it themselves. Right on guys, thanks for keeping the tradition going.
  • This Saturday morning (7/13/2013) Erik, Peter, Jason and Ben will be making a run at the Highline Trail in the Uinta's. Follow along here on Spot.

Now back to Hardrock...

  1. So Christian, by your estimation are we now back on par with the old course in terms of the projected pace of the final 25, still quicker or somehow slower? As I remember, you estimated 40 minutes quicker in a previous post on the short-lived (and never run) new course.

  2. Nick,
I need to run it to get an honest opinion but my gut tells me we lost 15 mins by finishing at Soldier Hollow (for the front runners). In about 2 weeks I plan on running the last section (25 miles) and I'll post my thoughts. The reality is that the distance is .7 miles longer and I believe I have been enlisted to help with mapping the new section. Good times indeed. Let me know if you get over here and we can go for a run.

  3. Is there a climb on the new section to pot bottom to the finish?

  4. I'll be out there for a run in early September, but not much chance before that. I'd welcome some company on that day if you're not already booked up/entered. Finkel FT(overall)W @ HR100!

  5. Chris, there is a climb after leaving Pot Bottom, about 1.7 miles down the road and climbs approx. 800' over .6 miles or 1k if you prefer the euro thing. I am currently working on a whole new set of maps with profiles for each section.

Nick, unfortunately I'm entered. Running with you back in 2010 is highlight from Wasatch that think of fondly. BTW, I know that Gorman came close, but has anyone actually won Wasatch and completed the Slam. I'm not making odds yet but I'm pretty sure I know where I would put my chips.
